Why we call it the Shabo: Traditionally, Shabo is a Japanese term that describes a small ring worn by Ninjas. It was used in hand-to-hand combat to strike the pressure points. In the water or on dry land (i.e., biking, hiking, or otherwise), the Shabo fights the cold with the same ferociousness.

Ninja gloves!

Cost effective solution for cold digits. Good board feel, flex & warmth. Must have cold water session extenders.

2nd pair/ first pair ripped along the palm weld seam from pulling on the inner cuff when putting on… pull from the inner palm above the weld & Gucci.

Excellent warmth and drying

Good dexterity. Fingers stay warm. Dries easily inside — limits stink. Hard to put on but fit like a glove(haha). Could use an additional cuff strap or some means to stop water from entering at the wrists flooding the palm.

Gloves in Southern California....I know.....

It felt weird to wear gloves in San Diego but this winter has felt particularly colder than years past. Being a Matuse only guy, I went to the factory and picked up a pair of gloves. I got a size smaller than I would normally purchase. You want them to feel snug. I got in the water and immediately felt nothing. These gloves are a great shield from that initial shock of getting in the water and saying...HOLY Sh1t. My fingers never felt cold. Given that they are snug, I got a little numb on a couple of fingers but I think when they stretch out, it will allow for better circulation. They actually helped me paddle better for 2 reasons, 1) because my fingers can actually stay together because they aren't frozen AND they way the gloves are made, sorta makes them like webbing so they paddle great. I initially slipped on the rails due to the anti-slip Matuse logo's on the palm, so that needs to be adjusted but I rubbed them on the wax on the deck and once the wax was on them, they didn't slide again. I'd buy them again.
